Suffering from SOV? TRAFFIX has the Cure
August 20th, 2007
Are you one of 2.8 million Virginians who commute alone daily? Tired of high gas prices and stressful situations? If so, TRAFFIX, a service of HRT, has a cure. As part of a three month campaign, launched on August 17, 2007, TRAFFIX will disclose the typical symptoms associated with riding in a single occupancy vehicle (SOV) as well as present commuters with a cure to driving alone. The campaign will also use a combination of billboards, radio ads, commercials and direct mail to help heighten awareness; billboards can already be seen across Hampton Roads.
Initially, the billboards will introduce the concept of SOV and will allude to its financial and physical consequences. As part of its strategy, TRAFFIX will use the industry term SOV throughout the campaign and compare it to an ailment. In later phases of the campaign, which will include a combination of radio ads and commercials, TRAFFIX will offer itself and its services as a cure to the negative effects of SOV.
"Reducing traffic congestion and air pollution poses one of the greatest challenges in our region," said HRT President/CEO Michael Townes. "The services offered by TRAFFIX benefits everyone, including the environment, by helping to reduce the number of vehicles on our highways. This campaign will help to broaden views about SOV and will surely prompt commuters to inquire about the TRAFFIX program."
TRAFFIX, a service provided by Hampton Roads Transit, encourages citizens throughout Hampton Roads to use alternative forms of transportation that reduces SOV. TRAFFIX oversees and promotes regional commuter initiatives, including carpooling and telecommuting, by reaching out to area employers. Some of its key clients include the U.S. Navy, Northrop Grumman, Wal-mart, and Canon. This year, TRAFFIX has removed nearly 800 vehicles from the roads and has saved consumers over 600,000 gallons of gas and over $1.8 million in vehicle related expenses.
