Officials Set to Sign Contract for “The Tide” on October 1, 2007

September 17th, 2007

Following a statutorily mandated 60-day review period, “The Tide,” Norfolk’s Light Rail has made it through the final stage. The approval of the Full Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA) for “The Tide,” a contract with the federal government for its share of the project cost, signals the commencement of construction.

On October 1, 2007, officials will formally sign the agreement obligating the federal government to provide it’s share of the costs—55% or $128 million of the total project cost of $232.1 million. Once the date was announced, Michael Townes, President/CEO of HRT said, “The signing of the FFGA could very well be one of the most significant occasions for HRT and the City of Norfolk. Our federal partnership is critical to “The Tide’s” success, and we are thankful for their support.”
