Route 76 Elimination

HRT will hold a public hearing as required by the Federal Transit Administration to solicit comments from passengers regarding the proposal to discontinue service on the Route 76. Route 76 provides service between NEX Mall and the piers along Decatur Avenue, Monday through Friday from 5:55 am to 8:55 pm. Service frequency is 45 minutes. Route 2 simulates Route 76 after 9:00pm weekdays only.
The Navy’s funding request to maintain service has been denied therefore service will need to be eliminated on Route 76 on September 30, 2010 due to the expiration of federal grant funding. Route 2 weekday service after 9:00 pm on the base will also be discontinued.
The hearing will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, between 12p.m. – 2p.m. at Devary Hall (Naval Station Norfolk) located on 9475 Bacon Avenue, Bldg C-9, Norfolk, VA 23511.
HRT will receive comments online at gohrt.com/contact, in person at HRT administrative offices, and by mail at the following address: HRT c/o Community Relations, 3400 Victoria Boulevard, Hampton, VA 23661. Trains On The Move
Post Date: Jul 12In the coming weeks Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will begin running trains for testing from Ballentine Blvd. to Newtown Rd. in preparation for full operation next year. You should expect to see a train at any time, on any track, traveling in any direction. During testing, each time a train approaches an intersection, the train operator will sound a warning and flagging personnel will direct safety through the intersection.
Safety starts with you!
- Pay attention and only cross tracks at designated crossings
- Cross tracks quickly, without stopping
- Teach children safe behavior when around train tracks

Powered Up
Post Date: Jul 12A portion of The Tide’s Overhead Catenary System has been powered up between Ballentine Boulevard and Newtown Road. Electricity is flowing through the overhead wires. Please practice safe behavior when near the system.

Route 17 (Net) Service to Nauticus

Dear HRT Passengers,
Starting Saturday, May 15, 2010 the ROUTE 17 ( NET) will not provide direct service to Nauticus located at 1 Waterside Drive on the dates listed below when the cruise ships are in port at the Norfolk Cruise Terminal.
This change is due to the increase in the volume of traffic at the Nauticus during boarding and debarkation.
