Monticello Avenue & Charlotte Street Lanes to Re-Open

Turns from Monticello Avenue to Freemason Street to Close

On or after March 10th, Monticello Avenue between Freemason Street and Charlotte Street will reopen to northbound traffic. Charlotte Street between Monticello Avenue and Saint Paul’s Boulevard will reopen to through traffic in both directions.

The east and west sides of the Monticello/Freemason intersection will close for light rail construction. All turns from Monticello Avenue to Freemason Street will be prohibited.

  • Motorists heading east (towards the new Bank Street or MacArthur Center North parking garages) are encouraged to continue on Monticello Avenue, turn right onto Charlotte Street, then right onto Bank Street and continue to Freemason Street.
  • Motorists heading west (towards Boush Street) are encouraged to turn left off of Monticello Avenue onto Market Street, then right onto Granby Street and continue to Freemason Street.

Motorists are urged not to block intersections.

St. Paul’s Boulevard Lane Closures

Beginning on February 9th and lasting for approximately three weeks St. Paul’s Boulevard northbound will be reduced to one lane from Main Street to just north of Plume Street. Left turns onto Main and Plume Streets will be maintained.

St. Paul’s Boulevard southbound will be reduced to two lanes from south of Market Street to Main Street. For a detailed map of the construction area, click here.

Motorists are encouraged to use Waterside Drive and Brambleton Avenue as alternate routes.

This work is for the initial phase of a sewer replacement project in the St. Paul’s Boulevard corridor.

Boush Street to Close Between Brambleton…

Boush Street to Close Between Brambleton Avenue and Grace Street

Beginning the week of February 1st and continuing for approximately two weeks, Boush Street will close to through traffic between Brambleton Avenue and Grace Street for Dominion Virginia Power work. Vehicular access to businesses will be maintained from Grace Street and Olney Road.

Motorists travelling northbound on Boush Street will be detoured left on Brambleton Avenue to right on Duke Street, right on Grace Street and left on Boush Street. Granby Street is also an option.

Freemason Street and Court Street to Close

Effective Monday, January 25, Freemason Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from Granby Street west to Madison Mews. Access to the Freemason Street Garage will be available only from Boush Street. This closure will be in effect until further notice.

Also beginning on Monday, January 25, Court Street between Plume Street and E. City Hall Avenue will be closed. Local access will be available only from E. City Hall Avenue. This closure will be in effect for approximately 30 days.

Significant Changes to Occur at Boush/Bute and Duke/Bute Intersections

The Botetourt/Brambleton intersection is expected to open on or about Tuesday, January 19th. With the opening of this intersection, the work at Duke & Bute Street is scheduled to begin.

There will be a full closure of the Duke/Bute intersection for approximately 8 to 12 weeks. Access to the York Street garage will be southbound on Duke Street from Brambleton Avenue then left onto York Street.

At about the same time, traffic patterns will change with the on-going work at the intersection of Boush Street and Bute Street. The significant construction work will move from the west side of the intersection to the east side of the intersection. Motorists will no longer be able to make a left turn from Bute Street onto Boush Street and there will be no turns allowed from Boush Street to Bute or Charlotte Streets. Access to Charlotte Street and Bute Street east of Boush Street will be from Granby Street.
